Building Clients in a Tough Economy

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

One of the participants in my Business Acceleration Mastermind Group asked me yesterday how does he get potential clients to spend their funds today when, in light of the economy, they are afraid of tomorrow?

I really wanted to share this response with all of you as well, because this problem is really effecting everyone – so don’t feel awful, it is obviously not something you’re doing wrong!  Try sharing with your potential clients this piece of vital wisdom:  To get something you never had, you must do something you have never done.

The smartest people I talk to share that they believe the economy is going to really start picking up by June. So here’s the question: Will you be ready? Will you have done the things you must do NOW to be ready and MEMORABLE then? Your potential clients need to spend today in order to get the benefits tomorrow – and so do YOU.  If they don’t understand this, or if they are too fearful to take decisive action, then you don’t want them as clients. Really. They will either be excessively high maintenance, which will be totally draining, OR they will constantly be freaking out about results that they aren’t getting because they refuse to follow your advice and take action.

Also, remember to use all of your BEST lead generation / elimination tools.  You don’t want to waste time pursuing leads that simply will not become clients!  I’ve posted my AWESOME Lead Generation Strategy Considerations worksheet on my Facebook Group – Business Renegades.  Click here to join and access this tool and all the great tools in my biz accelerating toolbox.  http://tinyurl.com/cqc3vw

“Business Accelerator” Christine Comaford Shares Her Proven Systems For Fast-Paced Entrepreneurial Success

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Getting tangible results fast is the order of the day for NY Times bestselling author Christine Comaford who shares her proven, step-by-step systems in a 4-part webinar series beginning March 10, 2009.

San Francisco, CA March 6, 2009 – Mighty Ventures, LLC announced that CEO Christine Comaford will share her proven business systems for generating clarity of focus, marketing results, reliable revenue and building and leveraging a team for improved results in a four-part webinar called “Results Now” (www.resultsnowwebinar.com) beginning March 10, 2009.

Comaford, who has previously built and sold (or taken public) 5 companies for an average 700% return on investment insists that the current economic situation can be successfully circumnavigated by entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs willing to take decisive action using proven methodologies.

“There are nine different ways that entrepreneurs are leaking money that have nothing to do with the economy,” she says.  “And there are no less than 15 different ways of making or saving more money, most of which can be implemented with human capital only – energy over money.”

Having consulted for 700 of the Fortune 1000, as well as two White House Administrations (Bush & Clinton) and investing in more than 200 companies as a venture capitalist or angel investor, Comaford’s track record speaks for itself.

To date, she has helped create more than 150 millionaire entrepreneurs, thanked by Bill Clinton for “fostering American entrepreneurship” and successfully mentored more than 300 small businesses to greater results. With the Results Now webinar (www.resultsnowwebinar.com) she is putting her reputation to the test, guaranteeing tangible results within 30 days.

About Christine Comaford:

Christine has appeared on CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, FOX Business Network, PBS, CNET and is frequently quoted in the business, technology and general press at large. Stanford Graduate School of Business has done two case studies on her and PBS has featured her in three specials (Triumph of the Nerds, Nerds 2.0.1, and Nerd TV ). CNET has broadcast two specials covering her unconventional rise to success as a woman with neither a high school diploma nor college degree. Christine believes we can do well and do good, using business as a path for personal development, wealth creation, and philanthropy.

Newest Tool for your Toolkit – Logo Designing without Going Looney!

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

I was asked recently what the best way is to get a company’s logo and brand designed with great results and affordable rates.  The colleague went on to say that when you choose a logo, you are choosing your brand forever. How does one make sure that they’re making the best choice in this vital branding process?

There are a few important answers that I want you ALL to keep in mind regarding a logo.

1. Keep it inexpensive. A logo is NOT forever. You’ll evolve your design in time.

2. Focus on what emotion and energy you want to convey.

3. There are some GREAT independent vendors out there; find an inexpensive designer on Craigslist or Elance.

Keep it simple. Focus on the business and the value you bring to your customers… this is what matters more than a flashy logo!Feel free to join my Facebook Group (Business Renegades) at http://tinyurl.com/6xos94 to download a great Logo Design Worksheet to help you get started.

Building a Business Plan – Some Good Advice and a Sample Business Plan Outline

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

I was recently asked, “What are the vital components of a good business plan?”  Although I’ve covered this earlier in the year, I think it’s probably important enough to feature again – and maybe to highlight every other month or so.  Sales and marketing are key to a great business plan.  Ultimately, it’s all about how you’ll reach people, if they’ll buy, what conversion rate they’ll buy at, will they buy AGAIN, and if so, how often and for how much.

I saw a high potential biz plan a few days ago. I know they can build the technology – it’s for mobile coupons, and I know they can get the wireless deals done. What I don’t know is if they can get the consumers and the retailers on board.  They still need work there. Once they nail that part of the story, they’ll get funded. Nailing this will require adding more expertise to the company, which they can’t afford yet.

A good fix is to add some consumer marketing, shopping analytics, and a few retail experts to the advisory board. This will help complete the story and the plan.

Finding a Mentor

Friday, February 27th, 2009

How does one go about finding a mentor who’s “been there before” and is willing to share their knowledge?

Remember the 1-2-3 of mentorship for biz building.

  1. They must have had their own successful business.
  2. They must have helped others build successful businesses.
  3. They must have a program and or process that you can follow.

Effective mentoring requires both structure and access to expertise. It is also important to compensate your mentor somehow so that they do not feel used, disinterested or disconnected. A true mentor unleashes an army of powerful people and connections who are passionate about moving business forward. That’s the only kind of mentor you want.

DIY is NOT the way that profitable businesses are built!

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

One of the best questions I’ve ever gotten at my free monthly Biz Building call is, “How do I develop a profitable business without too much trial and error and lost money?”

I think the answer is vitally important to all entrepreneurs and savvy business people right now.  Here it is:  EVERY business loses precious time and often tens of thousands (if not more) in lost dollars and lost opportunities if they don’t get an incredible mentor, coach, and community to guide and support them! The mentor teaches what pitfalls to avoid, what to do and not do, and what’s most crucial to enact, along with when and how. Then a coach holds them accountable, and the community provides a gang of fellow travelers for support, idea sounding boards, etc.

So the question is, if you do NOT have a mentor and a community, as well as other tools, such as an advisory board and an accountability partner, why not?  Your success and the survival of your business depend upon it.  Get moving!

Definitely Create an Advisory Board to Build BIG Success

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

We all can benefit from advisors—they’re the friends from the trenches who’ve been on the business battlefield longer than we have. Or they’re friends who’re from a different industry or field who provide a unique perspective. Or they’re seasoned or high profile executives who lend you credibility, thus helping you secure customers, financing, or approval for an internal project.  You need advisors to bounce ideas off of, to provide a reality check, to tell you when you’re about to mess up, to confide in when you’re alone at the top of the organization or department. To get a great tool on how to create this, feel free to join my Facebook Group, Business Renegades: http://tinyurl.com/6xos94
